BURGUN SCHVERER (Lorraine Art Glassworks)
“Hector’s Farewell”
circa 1897
A baluster-shaped vase on a pedestal, with a tall, curved neck, made of double-layered light honey-coloured glass with occasional intercalated inclusions of green marbling. The body of the vase is engraved with a mythological scene depicting Hector’s farewell to Andromache and Astyanax, enhanced with polychrome enamels on a gold background. The lower and upper sections feature a decoration of engraved and polychrome enamelled friezes. The rest of the vase is engraved with stylised plant motifs and a diagonal frieze of animals.
Signed on the base ‘Verrerie d’art de Lorraine’ in a ribbon around the Cross of Lorraine and a thistle, and monogrammed ‘B S & C’ within the cross.

A double honey-yellow tinted glass vase by Burgun Schverer (Verrerie d’Art de Lorraine) circa 1897, with green interlayer powders and an etched, polychromatic and gold-enamelled decoration depicting a mythological scene: Hector’s farewell to Andromache and Astyanax, set against stylised friezes of plants and animals. The upper and lower sections feature etched and polychromatic enamelled friezes. Signed ‘Verrerie d’art de Lorraine’ beneath the base on a ribbon and within a thistle flower, plus ‘B S & C’ within a Lorraine Cross.
