BURGUN SCHVERER (Lorraine Art Glassworks) "Hector’s Farewell" circa 1897 A baluster-shaped vase on a pedestal, with a tall, curved neck, made of double-layered light honey-coloured glass with occasional interlayered inclusions of green marbling. The body of the vase is engraved with a mythological scene depicting Hector’s farewell to Andromache and Astyanax, enhanced with polychrome enamels on a gold background. The lower and upper sections feature a decoration of engraved and polychrome enamelled friezes. The rest of the vase is engraved with stylised foliage and a diagonal frieze of animals. Signed on the base ‘Verrerie d’art de Lorraine’ in a ribbon surrounding the Cross of Lorraine and a thistle, and monogrammed ‘B S & C’ within the cross. H: 22.5 cm A double honey-yellow tinted glass vase by Burgun Schverer (Verrerie d’Art de Lorraine) circa 1897, with green interlayer powders and an etched, polychromatic and gold-enamelled decoration depicting a mythological scene: Hector’s farewell to Andromache and Astyanax, set against a background of stylised plant and animal friezes. The upper and lower sections feature etched and polychromatic enamelled friezes. Signed “Verrerie d’art de Lorraine” beneath the base on a ribbon and within a thistle flower, plus “B S & C” within a Lorraine Cross.
