Emile GALLE (1846–1904) “Magnolias” Circa 1897 A cylindrical vase in double-layered colourless and milky glass, with a marquetry decoration of ruby-red and pale green magnolia flowers, engraved and worked on the wheel. Signed “Gallé” within the decoration and “Cristallerie de Gallé à Nancy” on the underside of the base. H: 19.5 cm A “Magnolias” double-layer glass vase designed by Émile Gallé around 1897, featuring a marquetry decoration of ruby-red and pale green magnolia flowers and leaves, etched and wheel-contoured on a colourless and milky background. Signed “Gallé” in the decoration and “Cristallerie de Gallé à Nancy” on the base. H: 7.68 inches Museum records: A variant of this form is held in the collections of the Hermitage Museum of Fine Arts (Moscow) under inventory number MZ-X 383. Exhibition: A vase with this design was exhibited by Gallé at the 1897 Salon of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts under number 250.4 in the ‘Objets d’Art’ section.
