Emile GALLE (1846–1904) ‘The Morning Star and the Evening Star’ circa 1899 A multi-layered glass vase with a hot-formed four-lobed neck, decorated with seaweed and a starfish engraved in deep, reddish-brown camee on a green ground marbled with interlayered powders. Bears the engraved inscription “The Morning Star and the Evening Star” (Victor Hugo) around the rim. Signed “E. Gallé” in reserve, within the decoration. H: 8.5 cm, D: 16 cm A “L’étoile du matin et l’étoile du soir” ("The morning star and the evening star") multilayer glass “talking” vase designed by Émile Gallé around 1899, with a reddish-brown etched design of seaweed and a starfish on a mottled green background with interlayer powders.
