DAUM – Nancy ‘Trees in the Rain’ or ‘Pluviose’ Circa 1900. A double-walled glass goblet with a wide, hot-formed quatrefoil opening, featuring an all-over design of bare trees bending under the downpour, engraved using the fine-reserve technique, painted in grisaille and enamelled in contrasting colours of anthracite grey, glossy black and moss green. The rain is suggested by oblique striations outlined in slight relief against an acid-etched frosted background. Signed “Daum ‡ Nancy” in black enamel, beneath the base. H: 8 cm, D: 11 cm A “Pluviose” or “Trees under the rain” double-layered glass cup designed by Henri Bergé for the Daum - Brothers (Nancy), featuring a finely etched, grisaille-painted design in grey, black and moss green enamel depicting trees in the rain, with the rain suggested by oblique streaks finely etched onto an acid-etched background. Black enamelled “Daum ‡ Nancy” signature beneath the base.
