Description
A rectangular console table in richly carved and gilded wood; the stepped moulding, adorned with frames featuring rows of pearls, trophies of arms and sun-embellished peltas, is supported by winged mermaids leaning against vases filled with flowers. The legs consist of ribbon-like bundles terminating in lion’s-paw feet joined by a curving crossbar.
19th-century work.
Top in green marble with pink and purple veining.

Based on the model by Georges Jacob for the Turkish cabinet in the Count of Artois’s apartment at the Palace of Versailles in 1781; now in the collections of the Musée du Louvre in Paris.
The ‘d’Artois’ model enjoyed immense success in the 19th century and was reproduced by several major Parisian manufacturers, notably that of Louis-Auguste-Alfred Beurdeley.
