Under the direction of Charles-Nicolas Odiot, the House of Odiot achieved a degree of influence in the 19th century that placed it among the most prestigious goldsmiths' workshops in Europe. Heir to a family tradition firmly established since the end of the XVIIᵉ century, Charles-Nicolas knew how to adapt the company's production to changes in aristocratic and princely taste, reconciling the heritage of the Empire style with the revival of rocaille, neo-baroque and neo-renaissance forms. Appointed official supplier to Louis-Philippe I and the Orléans family, he helped to make goldsmithing an instrument for representing power and social prestige. His creations are distinguished by a very high quality of execution, a remarkable variety of ornamentation and a technical mastery that testify to the maintenance of traditional French skills against a backdrop of gradual modernisation of production.
