- The Takou map (48x52 cm).

events of the Boxer Rebellion, which led to the intervention of an international coalition
to put an end to the insurrection (Second China Expedition).

French Legation in Tokyo provided the troops with the topography of this strategic region, which is reflected in the
maps we present here.
The Gulf of Petchili (now the Gulf of the Bohai Sea) was in fact the ideal point of entry into
inland China, as it allowed troops to be landed at Tien Tsin before marching on Peking
Peking, less than 150 km away. It was by taking this route that the French forces
through the Takou forts to reach the capital and liberate the beleaguered legation district.
