A pair of graphite drawings: ‘The Entrance to an Opera House’, 27 × 47 cm (40 × 59 cm framed), signed and inscribed: ‘For Marcel Haedrich, his friend, Beaurepaire’ and ‘The Opera Stage’, 23x34 cm (34x44 cm framed), signed.
He worked from 1945 to 1955 as a set designer for Jean Cocteau, Christian Bérard, Jean Marais, Roland Petit… He also designed costumes and sets for the Paris Opera and La Scala…
Enclosed is a letter from André Beaurepaire to Marcel Haedrich offering him these two drawings: ‘… I appreciated your initiative in having me illustrate Louise’s* welcome work! You’re a real “mate”, a friend. I’ll keep the two pencil sketches for you … ”.
