Description
A rare pair of painted wooden children's shepherds' chairs, the cabriolet-shaped backs decorated with flowers. The arms are cuffed and supported by sinuous brackets. The moulded waistband features a cavet and a floral apron at the front. It stands on an arched base finished with small volutes at the front. Stamped on the back rails by Nicolas Quinibert FOLLIOT. Parisian work from the Louis XV period. NB: Small reinforcing brackets around the edges, one restored front leg, dirt and wear to the painted decoration. Height 81 cm, depth 48 cm, width 60 cm. Nicolas Quinibert Foliot (Master in 1729) was the official supplier to the Garde-Meuble royal and worked for Versailles and Marie-Antoinette. His work illustrates the "Transition" style, combining refined naturalistic sculptures and elegant lines. Today, his creations are internationally acclaimed museum pieces, notably in the Louvre and the Metropolitan Museum. This is a rare opportunity to experience the excellence of 18th-century French cabinetmaking.
