Description
Mahogany and mahogany veneer chest of drawers. Rectangular in shape, decorated with mahogany mouldings in the form of a mouchette. It opens on the front with three drawers in three rows and stands on a base with rounded sides on the front. All the uprights are fluted. The whole is supported by a tapered turned base. Stamped under the lower right-hand side rail with the name P. CHARRIERE. White marble base moulded with a small cavet and embossed brass ornamentation. Parisian work from the Louis XVI period. NB: A lock for the bottom drawer is missing, restoration to a back leg, crack to the right side, key missing. H. 82.5 - D. 46 - W. 96 cm. P. Charrière Year of mastery unknown. Although little is known about the man, his workshop continued under the direction of his widow in the 1780's. He specialised in Louis XVI mahogany veneered furniture highlighted with copper baguettes. He also produced rarer pieces decorated with Far Eastern lacquer, such as corner pieces and secretaries.
