Description
Mahogany and dappled mahogany veneer Trictrac, with quarter round bench moulding, opens with two opposing drawers. It has an amaranth veneered apron inlaid with bone and stained bone arrows. The reversible top is covered with havana-coloured leather on one side and a game cloth on the other. The piece stands on a tapered turned base. It is decorated with small rings and hooves. Stamped on the field of the two drawers by Gamichon. Parisian work from the Louis XVI period. NB: It has its two silvered metal bells and two horns. Good condition, later leather. Height 75 cm, depth 61 cm, width 117 cm. Jean-Baptiste Gamichon. Year of mastery unknown (active from the beginning of the Revolution). Working on rue Mauconseil and then rue de Cléry, his work ranged from the late Louis XVI style to the Empire. He used mahogany, walnut and lemon wood for his soberly shaped furniture. His dining room sideboards, often in walnut with brass frames, are characteristic of his work.
