Description
Small four-sided inlaid lady's desk, curved on the sides, decorated with floral marquetry in hornbeam and stained holly on a rosewood base in amaranth frames. It opens with a flap concealing a double back and four drawers in the clamp. It also has two drawers in the waistband and rests on an arched base. Ornamented with falls and small sabots. Stamped on the back rail by Charles CHEVALLIER. Parisian work from the Louis XV period. NB: Restorations to the veneer, wear to the engraving, small detachments, three keys in rough. Height 87 cm, depth 42.5 cm, width 69.5 cm. Charles Chevallier: Parisian cabinetmaker, master before 1738, renowned for his Louis XV and Transitional furniture decorated with rich floral marquetry or Far Eastern lacquers. One of his pieces is preserved in the Musée Carnavalet, an indication of his superior craftsmanship.
