Album size: 52 x 38 cm
Annotated in black pencil on the title page "Mary Lowther", and old label top left "Creswick/12 Gt Portland street/Oxford Street".
All the watercolours are glued to the four corners, dated and captioned on the mount.

Many of the watercolours are monogrammed, located and dated on the verso in black pencil.
The montage of these watercolours is neither chronological nor geographical. It runs from 1875 to 1915 and covers Spain, Italy, Portugal, Scotland and England.
This collection of watercolours takes us on a journey across Europe.
The Lowthers are one of the oldest families in Britain, and trace their origins to the Dolfin family, descendants of a Viking settler who arrived around 1150 and is said to have named the river Lowth-a (foaming water), hence the family name.
Mary Lowther was the daughter of Father Hon William Lowther (1821 -1912), 1st Earl of Lonsdale, and Charlotte Alice Parke (1853-1908). Very little is known about this artist, apart from the date of her marriage to Mr Paul Vieugué (1865-1947) on 29 April 1897. This explains why there is a watercolour signed with her married name, Mary Vieugué.
