Giuseppe CESARI known as the Cavalier of ARPIN (Arpino 1568-Rome 1640). Study for the Abduction of the Sabine women. Black stone, shading and white chalk highlights on brown paper. Annotated "d'Arpino" lower left in pen and brown ink (Stains, insolate and small folds). Height 29.2 cm; Width: 19.2 cm. Our drawing is probably a first idea for the groups on the right of the fresco of the Abduction of the Sabines, painted around 1635-36 in the Hall of the Horatii and Curatii in the Capitoline Museum in Rome.
