Matsuda Sanao 松田眞扶 (Japan, 1934- )
A kimpun lacquer tea pot (nastume) decorated in hira maki-e with shukin lacquer, silver-gold, kirikane and mother-of-pearl inlays of fabrics decorated with kiku, sakura and autumn flowers in water known as "yuzen-nagashi". The interior in nashiji lacquer.
Fukusa signed Sanao and stamped.

Yuzen nagashi is a tradition from the town of Kanazawa, famous for its silk-dyeing technique known as kaga-yuzen. The yuzen nagashi stage involves washing the silk strips in the river to remove excess glue and dye.
Matsuda Sanao currently works in Sabae, in Fukui prefecture. His father, Shuetsu, studied at Zōhiko, the famous Kyoto house specialising in high-quality maki-e lacquerware, whose origins date back to 1661. Matsuda Sanao studied with Terai Naoji (1912-1998), famous for his expertise in maki-e and considered a living national treasure.
