Yamazaki Hiroshi (Geishū) 山崎博 (迎舟) (Japan, 1936- ) A shukin lacquer tea pot (natsume) with gold, black and red lacquer hira maki-e decoration of cranes in flight. The interior in nashiji lacquer. Fukusa signed Geishū and stamp. H. 7 cm Storage box (tomobako), inscribed "O-natsume, shukin, grue maki-e", signed Geishū zo and stamped. Yamazaki Hiroshi was born in 1936 in the village of Yamanaka in Ishikawa prefecture. His artist name is Geishū, and his works mainly consist of tea utensils, such as natsume and kōgō. Unfortunately, little is known about Hiroshi's early career. However, over the years he has established himself as a highly respected Kaga-style maki-e artist and has participated in numerous exhibitions. For example, Hiroshi's work was featured twice at the Sōsaku Maki-e exhibition (in 1978 and 1984) and he was selected for the 7th Japanese Traditional Lacquer Craft Exhibition in 1994. In addition, he has won several awards, including the Ishikawa Governor's Award in 1965, the Yamanaka Mayor's Award in 1981, the Kaga Mayor's Award in 1976, 1978, 1979, the Ishikawa Prefectural Traditional Industry Award in 1969 and the Ishikawa Manufacturing Test Award in 1990. In recognition of his talent, Hiroshi was appointed Master Traditional Craftsman by the Minister of the former Ministry of International Trade and Industry in 1995. Hiroshi is also a member of the Nihon Kōgei-kai (Japan Crafts Association).
