Chahira Issai II 二代茶平一斎 (Japan, 1948-) A nashiji lacquer tea pot (natsume) with taka maki-e gold and silver lacquer, kirikane and hedatsu decoration of open fans decorated with iris, bamboo, cherry blossom, crane, chrysanthemums and chidori. The interior is in nashiji lacquer and bears the kao of Hisada Soya (Jingyusai) (1925-2010), 12th tea master of the Hisada family of the Omotsenke school. Fukusa stamped Issai. H. 5,7 cm Storage box (tomobako), the inside of the lid inscribed "herbs and flowers, maki-e fans, hira natsume; Jingyusai", the box inscribed "O-natsume, fan", signed Issai zo and stamped. Founded in 1947 in Wajima, the Chahira Issai workshop is now run by the third generation of the family. Issai III, representing the third generation of the Chahira Issai lineage, inherited the name in 2013, after the death of Issai II. He now heads up the Chahira Issai studio and strives to perpetuate the legacy of his grandfather and father. His work has already been shown at several exhibitions, including at the Mitsukoshi department stores' in Hiroshima in 2025, and like his father, Issai III also continues to work abroad.
