Description
Shinbo Masami 新保雅巳 (Japan, 1952-)
A kinji and kimpun lacquer tea pot (natsume) with gold lacquer hira maki-e, hedatsu and o-hirame decoration of a bridge under pine trees evoking the Sumiyoshi shrine. The interior in nashiji lacquer and bearing the kao of Hounsai Soshitsu Sen XV (1923-2025), 15th master of the Urasenke school.
Fukusa stamped Masami.

Storage box (tomobako) inscribed "Sumiyoshi maki-e, hira natsume", inside lid signed by Hounsai, signed Masami zo and stamped.
Shinbo Masami is a maki-e artist born in Kaga. He studied with Kiyose Ikkō I, who became his master in 1973. Most of Shinbo's works are on tea pots (natsume), incense boxes (kogo), inkstone boxes and accessories.
