Izutsu Eibun 井筒英文 (Japan, 1953-) A ro-iro lacquer tea pot (natsume) with shukin, green, gold and beige lacquer hira maki-e decoration and mother-of-pearl inlays of sacred bamboo (nandina) under snow. The interior in ginji lacquer. H. 5.6 cm Storage box (tomobako) inscribed "maki-e snowy branches, hira natsume, silver interior", signed Eibun zo and stamped. Izutsu Eibun is a maki-e artist born in Yamanaka in Ishikawa prefecture. After graduating from Daishoji Vocational High School in Ishikawa Prefecture in 1971, he began his apprenticeship with maki-e artist Nakamura Takuya中村孝也 (b. 1941). He opened his own studio ten years later, in 1981, where he perfected his maki-e lacquer technique on tea ceremony utensils. He sometimes used the name Hosai during his career.
