Hosokawa Shikō 細川司光 (Japan, 1941-) A ro-iro lacquer tea pot (natsume) with gold and brown lacquer hira maki-e decoration and mother-of-pearl inlays of the Godaido pavilion in Matsushima Bay, famous for its pine-forested islands. The interior in ginji lacquer. Fukusa with stamp. H. 7 cm high Born in 1941 in the town of Yamanaka, Ishikawa prefecture. In 1969, he became an apprentice to an artist specialising in maki-e lacquer in Yamanaka. In 1974, he became an independent craftsman specialising in lacquer. Four years later, his work was selected for the Yamanaka Lacquer Craft Exhibition. In 1983, he won the grand prize at the Yamanaka city exhibition of maki-e lacquer artists.
