Description
A gilt bronze clock decorated with two children around a palm tree and an obelisk, the dial with Roman and Arabic numerals indicating the date of the month and the phases of the moon; (wear and missing parts, notably at the top of the obelisk).
The bronze is signed François Vion on the back of the base, a bronze-maker who received his master's diploma in 1764.
The dial and movement signed by De Bon in Paris for Jacques De Bon, watchmaker to the Duc d'Orléans.
Louis XVI period.
Height 37 cm; Width: 20 cm; Depth: 9.5 cm
The model of this clock known as "à la gloire des princes" (principum decus) is reproduced under number 27 in the Recueil de pendules kept at the INHA as the property of the bronze-maker François Vion (see illustration). A similar example was sold in Paris, Étude Ader, on 4 November 2022, lot 348.
