Alphonse GIROUX et Cie.
Carved wooden puppet theatre simulating a bridge topped by a sign reading "ROUTE IMPERIALE"; the back of the stage is removable.
Signed A. Giroux Fecit 1860.
Napoleon III period.
(Minor accidents and missing parts).
Height 29.5 cm; Width: 55 cm; Depth: 24 cm.
This small theatre's plant decoration evokes the happiness of the Empress's day, kept at the Château de Compiègne (C.59030).
Provenance:
- By tradition, object having belonged to the Prince Impérial (1856-1879), son of Napoleon III (1808-1873) and the Empress Eugénie ;
- Then former collection of Admiral Emilio Fernandez de Luanco, who is said to have received it from Empress Eugénie (1826-1920);
- It has remained in the family to this day;
