Description
Officer's flintlock pistol.
Round barrel with thunder flat, blued and patinated with remains of gold decoration and the words "canon tordu". Silver sights. Lock signed "Maule au Regt de Lescure Dragont". Chased and line-decorated iron fittings. Varnished walnut stock. Wooden ramrod with horn tip.
A.B.E. (minor pitting and wear). Circa 1780.

Provenance: Former Jarlier collection.
Harquebusier "to the regiment of Lescure Dragont" (sic) on a pistol of the Louis XVI period. This regiment, the 17th Dragons, belonged to M. LESCURE in 1784-1787 and was stationed in Niort. A harquebusier by the name of MAULE was found in Niort (Deux-Sèvres) in the 19th century.
