Attributed to Giovanni Maria MORANDI (1622-1717) Portrait of Cardinal Girolamo Casanate Canvas 73 x 61 cm
Note: Girolamo Casanate (1620-1700) was a cardinal from Naples. He held several positions in the Roman Curia before being appointed cardinal in 1673 by Pope Clement X. During his appointment, he took part in several conclaves, including that of 1676, at the end of which Innocent XI was elected Pope. As Vatican Librarian and Prefect of the Congregation of the Index from 1693, he also founded the Biblioteca Casanetense.
