Note: Charles-Louis-Auguste Spriman (active 1775-after 1796) was a silversmith in Mons, then in Paris. Born on 7 November 1737 in Mons, he completed his apprenticeship with the silversmith Charles Leveux and was awarded his master's degree on 28 December 1762 (his masterpiece, according to Raymonde Stilmant, is "a coffee pot with three taps embellished with modern ornaments". On 28 March 1775, he obtained his master's degree in Paris by decree of the Council and, on 20 May 1775, backed by Nicolas Rigal, he had his hallmark inscribed in three copies (CS and a Saint-Esprit). From 1776-1778, as soon as he arrived in Paris, he worked as a subcontractor to Robert-Joseph Auguste for the Ekaterinoslav service (Auguste was his compatriot), and made two terrines marked with a gratis hallmark (Louvre and private collection). His workshop was located on the Pont Notre-Dame until 1785, and then, when the bridge was demolished, on Rue Basse des Ursins until 1793. Like Auguste fils, Spriman does not seem to have been bothered during the revolutionary events, and in Year IV (1795-1796), the Almanach national lists him as one of the administrators of the ninth municipality. Hélène Cavalié found the date of his death, 15 September 1809, in Paris, rue Geoffroy-Lasnier. He left a large production of shaped pieces, some marked with the gratis hallmark, all dating from before 1786. Provenance: Collection of a goldsmith and silversmith expert in the 1930s-1940s in Paris, and passed on by descent since then. Expert : Sancy Expertise Paris - Florian Doux
