Note: Cadmos was a Phoenician prince who went to find his sister Europa, who had been kidnapped by Zeus. The oracle at Delphi ordered him to found a city wherever a cow stopped. He arrived in Boeotia and founded Thebes.
Cadmos then kills a dragon sacred to Ares that was guarding a spring. By sowing the dragon's teeth, he gave birth to the Spartans, ancestors of the nobles of Thebes.
