Description
A set of four substantial flat-backed armchairs known as ‘à la reine’ Crafted from moulded and carved beech, re-lacquered white; the undulating upper crossbar is crowned with an openwork rocaille cartouche; the armrests are accented with foliage scrolls; the scalloped waistband features, on the front, a rocaille clasp framed by small flowers. Curved legs with foliage decoration. The backrest is upholstered in embossed red velvet. Stamped J. BROSCOLLE. Louis XV period. H.: 94 cm – W.: 75 cm – D.: 70 cm (Minor losses, traces of spring-loaded upholstery, a few cracks in the wood; possible earlier restorations to the legs, not visible beneath the lacquer). Jacques Broscolle, admitted as a master craftsman in 1743, was based on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Germain. Expert: Arnaud Romieux
