Description
Six-panel folding screen Made of moulded walnut and carved with foliage, fleurons and bouquets of flowers. The reverse is lined with red embossed velvet. Louis XV period H.: 56 – W.: 23 – D.: 9 cm. (Stripped at a later date, the screen retains traces of its former polychrome decoration). A certificate issued by the antiquarian, Mr Luc Bouveret, 7 quai Voltaire, 75007 Paris, mentions a stamp by Claude-Étienne Michard on the border. However, this mark, situated beneath the tapestry, could not be verified, as the screen has not been stripped of its upholstery. Claude-Étienne Michard, who was admitted as a master cabinetmaker specialising in chairs on 26 July 1743, is known for his production of Louis XV-style chairs with elegant forms and rich carvings. His workshop was based in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine, the main centre of Parisian furniture production in the 18th century. Expert: Arnaud Romieux.
