Georges JACOB (1739–1814)
Chair known as the ‘Voyeuse’
Made of moulded and carved beech, re-lacquered in grey; the backrest features an openwork lyre motif, whilst the seat rests on tapered front legs and Etruscan-style rear legs, fluted and with serrated edges.
Stamped ‘G. IACOB’ on the rear crossbar.
Louis XVI period, c. 1780.

Georges Jacob (1739–1814), one of the most famous 18th-century cabinetmakers specialising in chairs, was admitted as a master on 4 September 1765 before becoming one of the principal suppliers to the Crown and the royal family.
