Description
NATHALIE DECOSTER (Born 1965) Air du temps Sculpture in bronze and steel; signed on the base N. DECOSTEN and numbered 6/8 102 x 80 cm Provenance: acquired from the artist by the current owner Born in 1965, Nathalie Decoster felt an instinctive need to shape matter from an early age. Nurtured by Stoic thought and the works of Seneca, her artistic approach is rooted in a quest for wisdom that combines depth, distance and humour. Bronze, the artist's favourite material, remains at the heart of her visual language. "Metal lives, like human skin", she confides. Working alongside her Auvergne-based founder, she tirelessly explores its nuances and vibrations, while opening up her work to other materials such as aluminium, stainless steel, gold leaf and organic elements. Her world revolves around a figure that has become emblematic: the Messenger. At once anonymous and singular, fragile and powerful, this figure crosses time and territory like a silent presence offered up for contemplation. In major works such as Le Temps qui passe (Time Passing), Traces du Temps (Traces of Time), La Maîtrise du Temps (The Mastery of Time) and La Roue du Temps (The Wheel of Time), he invites us not to suffer the passing of days, but to fully inhabit time and become its conscious protagonists. His sculptures can be found in public spaces and in major private, corporate and institutional collections, including the Museu Brasileiro da Escultura e Ecologia in São Paulo, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Macao and the shores of Lake Como, as well as in companies and groups such as Jaeger-LeCoultre, Guerlain, LVMH, SWIRE, EDHEC Business School, MEDEF, Groupe ADP - Aéroports de Paris, Château Smith Haut Lafitte and ArcelorMittal.
