Greece Commemorative medal Athens Olympic Games 1896, silver-plated bronze, 64.44 g, 50 mm; by Chaplain. Obverse: Zeus holding the goddess of Victory, with the vertical inscription ΟΛΥΜΠΙΑ on the left. Reverse: View of the Acropolis, with the inscription ΔΙΕΘΝΕΙΣ ΟΛΥΜΠΙΑΚΟΙ ΑΓΩΝΕΣ along the upper rim and ΕΝ ΑΘΗΝΑΙΣ 1896 at the bottom. Condition: Superb and very rare original medal awarded at the first modern Olympic Games, held in Athens in 1896.
