CHINA, early 20th century Two boxes for opium dregs (or opium residue) made of paktong with a silvery patina, quadrangular in shape, each with three tiers, the top tier featuring a grille and two lids, the sides bearing incised decoration, alternating between calligraphic inscriptions in the form of philosophical aphorisms on self-improvement, morality and introspection, drawn from texts of the Ming and Qing periods, and lively scenes of scholars, possibly relating to the texts.
