Provenance: This English silver menagère has been in daily use by various branches of the Campbell family since the second half of the 18th century. In the 19th and 20th centuries the family consisted of Col. Charles Campbell and his two sisters. Col. Campbell was aide-de-camp to George V; his wife, Mary de Teck, entrusted him with their two sons, the future Edward VIII and George VI, and wrote to him: "that they had both taken great pleasure in seeing them begin to assume their public duties" under his direction. (Handwritten letter, 26 May 1920, on Buckingham Palace letterhead).
