Description
Perez Lantern Clock Lantern clock with hourly striking and alarm, signed (on the dial) ‘Marcos PEREZ’ Probably between 1680 and 1682. Four-pillar movement, slightly baluster-shaped, in brass and iron, with a horizontal verge escapement and simple balance wheel, large counting wheel, with chain and weights. H. 22 cm One door and the weights are missing Marcos PEREZ, probably of Spanish or Portuguese origin, was admitted as a ‘free brother’ to the London Clockmakers’ Guild in 1680. After 1682, there is no further record of him. Only three other lantern clocks of his making are known to exist.
