19th-century Lyon School Allegory of Lyon and its districts She is depicted seated, accompanied by a lion; behind her lie Gallo-Roman ruins, and her right arm rests on a shield bearing the coat of arms of the city of Lyon. Wearing an architectural crown, she holds a shuttle and a ruler in her hands. At her feet are two amphorae representing the Rhône and the Saône. The whole stands on a hexagonal plinth representing the six districts of Lyon. Signed “L.C.A. MARTIN, 1866, completed in 1873” Height 47.5 cm Minor chips and the head has been reattached
