Set of eight wooden chairs with ‘guanmaoyi’ backs, the centre of the back forming an S-shape, cane seat nailed to the wooden frame, the four square-section legs connected by cross-bars and a footrest at the front, an inscription carved on the back of one chair: "Restored/repaired by Mr Lin in the 8th month of the 29th year of the Guangxu era (1903) 光緒二十九八月 平洲林 ? 修 ???"
H. 105 cm; seats: 53–54 x 42–43 cm
Sun-bleached wood, water stains, cracks and repairs (fillings, glue, and restored legs – with replacement parts – on three chairs); the cane seats are probably not original (restored in 1903?).
