Limoges, c. 1190–1200 A rare tripod candleholder with a single knot made of champlevé copper, engraved and enamelled: navy blue, light blue, yellow and green enamels; the copper stem engraved with scales, interrupted by a spherical knot in champlevé enamel decorated with foliage; the cup shaped like a crown with flame motifs; the pyramidal tripod base decorated on each side with a central rosette surrounded by foliage. H. 24 cm UCG Soldering beneath the base, some areas where the enamel is missing, wear to the gilding Provenance: Collection of Albin Chalandon (1809–1885), Lyon Related works: A similar, larger Limousin candle holder, made of enamelled copper with three knots, dating from the late 12th century, is held at the Louvre (height 40 cm; inv. no.
