Description
Édouard CAZAUX (1889–1974), ‘Oyamé’. Glazed terracotta plaque depicting the Virgin Mary, signed ‘Cazaux’ in relief on the reverse – Dimensions: 22 x 16 cm Édouard Cazaux, the son of a potter, never forgot his native Landes region. His meeting around 1910 in Mont-de-Marsan with the sculptor Charles Despiau proved decisive and encouraged him to pursue an artistic career. In 1920, he settled in La Varenne Saint-Hilaire, near Paris, and built two kilns for firing stoneware and earthenware.
