William WYLD (London 1806-1889), circa 1839 A View of the Tuileries Gardens Black pencil, brown wash and white gouache highlights on half-tone paper 28.6 x 60 cm Four sheets glued together, tear at the top, folds and stains Our drawing should be compared with the lithographed copy in the Musée Carnavalet, which is signed, more detailed and with animated figures (inv. G.18448) (fig. 4). Both our drawing and the lithograph in the Musée Carnavalet were certainly preparatory studies for an even more precise and detailed colour painting by the artist (fig. 5). Attached are two views of an English garden 59.5 x 34.5 and 35 x 69 cm
