[Archive]. [Vézelay]. Petition addressed to the king by the aldermen of the town of Vézelay. 17th century. A sheet measuring approx. 30 x 44 cm, mounted under modern glass (traces of creases and small marks, scuffing, slight water stain). Following the looting suffered by the churches of Saint-Pierre and Saint-Étienne in Vézelay ‘during the civil wars of the last century’, the aldermen request that the king grant them, for the repair of the said churches and as compensation for the destruction and thefts, the proceeds of alms received by the Protestant church in Beugnon, which had been seized by the authorities. Undated copy, carefully written, without signature or seal. Watermark bearing the name of Benoît Colombier, who was active in Ambert in the second half of the 17th century. Mounted under modern glass.
