NEVERS, c. 1789 Revolutionary patriotic earthenware plate – depicting the three estates Round plate with a scalloped rim, decorated with a frieze along the edge and, in the centre, a crossed fleur-de-lis on a crozier – a sword – a spade, surmounting a banner reading ‘union force’ and beneath a closed royal crown. Perforations along the rim; a crack reinforced with a clip. Diameter 23 cm A similar example, but inscribed ‘festons et pois’, is held at the Musée Carnavalet – Histoire de Paris (Paris) (inv. C173).
