Description
LALLEMANT (Nicolas). Universal French-Latin Dictionary, tenth edition. Paris, Colas, 1805. In-8, late 17th-century fine vellum cover (binding very worn, with missing sections, damage and soiling) Inscription at the end: “Quiconque librum prendra / ad valam pendu sera” and “aspice pierrot pendu / qui librum n’a pas rendu / si librum avoit rendu / non finisset ita pendu”, illustrated with two hanged figures. Provenance: Mrs N. Royer, a doctor in Montbard (handwritten bookplate), and “Bressonnet” (handwritten bookplate) from 1808. The Royer or Royhier family are amongst the oldest families in Montbard.
