[Burgundy]. [Industry. Social history]. REGISTER intended to record: 1. the names of children under the age of 18 employed in industrial establishments; 2. observations or formal notices issued by the Labour Inspectorate, particularly regarding workers’ health and safety. [Avallon, 1917–1953]. Oblong quarto, title on the cover (cover faded, soiled). An interesting record of industrial activity and local social history, this register belongs to a tannery situated in the Cousin-le-Pont district of Avallon. It was used from 1917 to 1953, and the first employee mentioned was aged 14. From 1920 onwards, labour inspectors recorded their observations and warnings in the register, and mention is made of safety improvements carried out by the owner, particularly following an accident at work.
