INFORMATION: Created in 1514, Melencolia is one of Albrecht Dürer’s most famous engravings. Its richly symbolic world – featuring angels, polyhedra, Masonic and alchemical references, an hourglass and even a magic square – has sparked passionate study and inspired numerous artists, most notably Salvador Dalí, who frequently references it.
To make this exceptional antique engraving more accessible, the Artfever gallery has commissioned a new edition: the plate was engraved by J. Boiteux based on the copy held at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, and the print was produced using traditional methods, hand-printed on a hand-cranked press in a copperplate engraving workshop.
