Description
Vincent Van Gogh (1853–1890) (after) Portrait of Dr Gachet Etching Unsigned On laid paper, 32 x 25 cm INFORMATION: The ‘Portrait of Dr Gachet’ (also known as ‘The Man with the Pipe’) is the only etching created by Van Gogh. Having settled in Auvers-sur-Oise on 20 May 1890, Van Gogh spent time with Dr Gachet, who introduced him to intaglio printing. On 25 May, he produced this famous portrait in the space of half an hour. Sixty-one copies were printed at the time. In order to make this exceptional etching more widely accessible, the Artfever gallery has commissioned a new edition: the plate was engraved by J. Boiteux based on the copy held at the French National Library (and in a slightly larger size than the original to avoid any confusion), and the print has been produced on antique paper using traditional methods, hand-printed on a hand press in an intaglio workshop. Excellent condition Postage required; up to 5 lithographs in your parcel for €14.76 (incl. VAT) in mainland France, and €29.64 (incl. VAT) for Europe
