DUNHILL Unique Sport Lighter, circa 1928 Petrol lighter / watch in 9k yellow and rose gold. Patented guilloché-engraved case. Watch integrated into the front face in 9k rose gold with a hinged mechanism to access the crown. Alfred Dunhill’s master’s mark on the watch case back. Gold dial. Gold Breguet hands (hour hand fitted with a blued steel insert). Dunhill-signed mechanical movement. Dimensions: 53 x 44 mm. Gross weight: 82 g Signed on the base with the British and American patent numbers. Matching serial numbers on the watch case and the lighter. In the 1920s, Dunhill launched the ‘Unique’ range, which revolutionised the world of lighters. The system allowed the lighter to be lit with just one hand. The ‘Sport’ version is characterised by the addition of a grille around the wick, facilitating use in less favourable conditions. The production of models such as ours, which incorporate a watch and are made of gold, remains extremely limited and rare.
