COLLECTION OF BYZANTINE GOLD-IN-GLASS TILE FRAGMENTS.
Syria, Ca. 10th - 12th century AD.
A collection of three gold-in-glass tile fragments with cut-out triangles of gold leaf, arranged in a cruciform design and sandwiched between a thick dark brownish bottom layer of glass and a thinner upper protective layer of colourless glass, with silver weathering around the edges.
