RARE BYZANTINE ROCK CRYSTAL HOLOGRAPHIC INTAGLIO DEPICTING CHRIST BETWEEN SAINTS IN GOLD RING. Ca. AD 400 - 600. A rock crystal convex intaglio engraved with a bust of Christ above a tall Latin cross, flanked by two nimbed saints in adoration with small crosses in the field. Set within a broad oval gold collet with a flat rim supported by a round-section hoop. The ring of a possibly later period. For similar see: The Ring of Aebutia Quarta in the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Palestrina. Size: D:17.93mm / US: 7 3/4 / UK: P; Weight: 7.4g Provenance: Private London collection; acquired in Munich, Germany in the 1990s.
