MATCHED PAIR OF BYZANTINE GOLD AND PEARL EARRINGS. Ca. AD 600 - 700. A matched pair of gold earrings, each formed as a hoop of round-section wire with a short reel-shaped collar. Below hangs a granulated medallion made as a beaded circular ring crossed by two ribs to form a cross. The four cardinal points are marked by pellet clusters, and the lower edge is finished with a small pearl drop. For similar see: Dumbarton Oaks, BZ.1938.7. Size: 45-46mm x 26-28mm; Weight: 9g Provenance: Private UK collection; Ex Private collection, Germany since 2019; acquired in 1981 from the A.C.
