BYZANTINE HIGH KARAT GOLD APPLIQUÉ WITH RED CABOCHON DEPICTING SAINT. Ca. AD 600. A circular gold appliqué embossed with the frontal image of a male saint in high relief, wearing a tunic with long sleeves. The figure holds an indistinct object in the left hand, while the right arm is raised across the chest. A red cabochon is set in a raised bezel above the head. The border is framed with a twisted gold wire, with four small perforations placed around the edge for attachment. Size: 33mm x 27mm; Weight: 2g Provenance: Private London collection; formerly in South German private collection 1980s-early1990s This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
